Blankenship was born March 31, 1964.  He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1981.  Kevin led the Hawks to the 1981 CIF 3A Championship game in a season he won 11 games, struck out 91 batters and finished with a 1.22 ERA.  When it comes to Hawks pitching history Kevin Blankenship’s name is at or near the top in most every category.  Kevin’s stats for a single season include 11 wins (1981 – 3rd), 1.22 ERA (1981 – 2nd) and 91 strikeouts (1981 – 5th).  His career stats are 17 wins (T6th), 1.78 ERA (1st) and 180 strikeouts (1st).  He went on to play Division I ball at the University of Arizona where the Atlanta Braves signed him as an undrafted free agent in 1984.

Kevin Blankenship made his Major League debut with the Atlanta Braves on September 20, 1988.  His last Major League game was on June 12, 1990 with the Chicago Cubs.  During Kevin’s 9 year professional baseball career he played for the the Braves Rookie team (1984), Durham (A – 1985), Greenville (AA – 1986-1988), Atlanta Braves (1988), Chicago Cubs (1988-1990), Iowa (AAA – 1989-1990), Buffalo (AAA – 1991) and Oklahoma City (AAA – 1992).  During his Major League career he appeared in eight games while starting five. He had a 4.59 ERA with a 1-3 record and 16 strikeouts while pitching for the Braves and Cubs.  Kevin also appeared in 275 minor league games and started 151 earning a 3.66 ERA with 745 strikeouts.  He was named to the 1988 Southern League All-Star team before Atlanta called him up to the Major Leagues.
