Luke was born February 26, 1971.  He graduated from El Dorado High School in 1989.  Matt helped lead the Hawks to the 1989 CIF 5A Championship (23-8).  He hit .404 in 104 at-bats with 42 hits (1989 – 4th), 3 homeruns while scoring 20 runs.  Matt was also 9-1 as a pitcher from 1988-1989.  He went on to play Division I ball at the University of California where he was drafted in the 8th round (214th overall) of the Major League Amateur Draft.

Matt Luke made his Major League debut with the New York Yankees on April 3, 1996.  His last Major League game was on September 30, 1999.  During Matt’s three year Major League career (New York Yankees, Los Angeles Dodgers, Cleveland Indians and the Anaheim Angels) he appeared in 123 games with 291 plate appearances, 269 at-bats with a batting average of .242, 15 homeruns, 65 hits, 40 RBI and 39 runs.

Overall, during his 9 year professional baseball career in addition to the Major Leagues he played for Oneonta (A – 1992), Greensboro (A – 1993), Tampa (A+ – 1994), Albany (AA – 1994), Norwich (AA – 1995), Columbus (AAA – 1995), Tampa (A+ – 1996), Columbus (AAA – 1996-1997), Lake Elsinore (A+ – 1999), Edmonton (AAA – 1999), Long Beach (Ind. – 2001), Durham (AAA – 2002) and Campeche (Mex. – 2002).  Matt appeared in 706 Minor League games with 3,019 plate appearances, 2,718 at-bats, 99 homeruns, 745 hits, 416 runs and a .274 batting average.
